Q1. How many lessons do I need before I take the practical test?
This can be different for each person, the average varies on the age group of a learner. The government recommends about 40 hours plus a further 20 hours with a family member.
Q2. What documents do I take with me to the test centre?
Both parts of the license, paper counterpart with photo ID. It is recommended to bring the appointment letter to avoid mistakes being made. Also you will need your Theory Test Certificate.
Q3. How long do I have to pass my practical test after I pass the Theory test?
Up to two years from the pass date.
Q4. How do I get my provisional license?
You must complete a driving licence application and also a photocard application form D1(available from most post offices) and the appropriate fee. The new D1 form, will have an area in the bottom left corner for you to attach your photograph. This can also be done electronically at the Post Office.
Q5. Do I have to pass the theory test before I can apply for the practical test?
Yes, you will be asked for proof of passing the theory test.
Q6. How much do the tests cost?
The theory test is £31 and the practical test is £62.50
